Find answers to common questions about HuntLand, our marketplace for hunting properties, and how to make the most of our platform.

What is HuntLand?

HuntLand is Canada's premier online marketplace that connects hunters with landowners who have hunting property available for rent. Think of it as Airbnb for hunting land. Hunters can search, book, and pay for hunting access on private properties across Canada, while landowners can list their land and earn income by providing hunting access.

How does HuntLand make money?

HuntLand operates on a simple commission-based model. We take a 20% commission from each booking, while landowners receive 80% of the booking fee. There are no subscription fees, listing fees, or hidden charges - we only make money when our landowners do.

Is HuntLand available throughout Canada?

Yes, HuntLand is available across all Canadian provinces and territories. However, the availability of properties in each region depends on landowner participation. We are continually expanding our network of landowners to provide more hunting opportunities nationwide.

Do I need a hunting license to book property on HuntLand?

Yes, all hunters must have a valid hunting license for the applicable province or territory where they intend to hunt. HuntLand does not provide hunting licenses. You must obtain your license and tags from the appropriate provincial wildlife department before your hunting trip.

Landowners may request to see your valid hunting license and identification upon arrival. Hunting without a proper license on booked property is illegal and violates our terms of service.

Can I bring guests with me when I book a property?

This depends on the specific property's rules set by the landowner. Each property listing will indicate the maximum number of hunters allowed. If you want to bring additional guests, you must request permission from the landowner before booking or through our messaging system after booking.

All hunters in your party must have valid hunting licenses and follow all applicable regulations and property rules.

What happens if there's no game on the property during my hunt?

Wildlife movements and behavior are unpredictable, and HuntLand cannot guarantee the presence or harvest of any game animals during your hunt. Hunting properties are rented for access only, and booking fees are not refundable based on hunting success or game sightings.

We encourage hunters to read property reviews from previous hunters and ask landowners specific questions about recent game sightings before booking.

How do I find the best hunting properties on HuntLand?

To find the best hunting properties that match your preferences:

  1. Use our search filters to narrow down properties by location, game type, amenities, and price
  2. Check the Interactive Map to see property locations and surrounding areas
  3. Read reviews and ratings from other hunters who've used the property
  4. Look for properties with detailed descriptions and multiple photos
  5. Contact landowners directly with specific questions about the property or hunting conditions

We also recommend booking well in advance for prime hunting seasons as the best properties tend to get reserved quickly.

What kind of land can I list on HuntLand?

You can list any privately owned land that's legally available for hunting. This includes:

  • Forests, woodlands, and timber properties
  • Farmland and agricultural properties
  • Wetlands and waterfowl habitat
  • Grasslands and prairies
  • Mountain and backcountry properties

Your property should have legal access points, defined boundaries, and preferably some wildlife habitat. Properties must be a minimum of 10 acres, though larger properties typically attract more interest from hunters.

How much can I charge for my hunting land?

As a landowner, you have complete control over your pricing. Rates typically vary based on:

  • Property size and location
  • Game species and hunting quality
  • Amenities offered (cabins, blinds, etc.)
  • Seasonal demand (peak hunting seasons command higher prices)

Most Canadian hunting properties range from $100-$300 per day depending on these factors. You can set different rates for daily, weekly, and monthly bookings. Our platform will provide pricing recommendations based on similar properties in your area to help you set competitive rates.

What if hunters damage my property?

HuntLand takes property protection seriously. Here's how we help protect landowners:

  1. All hunters agree to our terms of service, which includes respecting property
  2. You can require a security deposit when listing your property
  3. Our review system helps identify responsible hunters
  4. You can create specific property rules that hunters must follow
  5. Our messaging system allows you to communicate expectations clearly

If damage does occur, document it with photos and contact our support team immediately. We'll work with you and the hunter to resolve the situation fairly, potentially using the security deposit to cover damages.

How do I pay for a hunting property?

HuntLand uses a secure payment system integrated with Stripe. We accept all major credit cards. The booking process is simple:

  1. Select your desired property and dates
  2. Review the total cost (including our service fee)
  3. Enter your payment information securely
  4. Receive booking confirmation via email

Your payment is held securely until 24 hours after your hunting trip starts, at which point it's released to the landowner. This provides protection in case the property isn't as described.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellation policies are set by individual landowners and will be clearly displayed on each property listing before you book. HuntLand offers three standard cancellation options that landowners can choose from:

  • Flexible: Full refund if cancelled 7 days before check-in; 50% refund if cancelled between 7 days and 24 hours before check-in
  • Moderate: Full refund if cancelled 14 days before check-in; 50% refund if cancelled between 14 days and 7 days before check-in
  • Strict: Full refund if cancelled 30 days before check-in; 50% refund if cancelled between 30 days and 14 days before check-in

No refunds are issued for cancellations within 24 hours of check-in under any policy. We recommend purchasing appropriate trip insurance if you're concerned about potential cancellation needs.

When do landowners receive their payment?

Landowners receive their payment (80% of the booking fee) 24 hours after the hunter's check-in time. This delay provides protection for hunters in case the property is not as described or there are access issues.

Payments are processed automatically through our secure payment system and deposited directly to the landowner's connected bank account. Processing times may vary depending on the landowner's bank, but typically take 1-3 business days after release.

How does the Interactive Map feature work?

HuntLand's Interactive Map allows you to visualize available hunting properties across Canada. Here's how to use it:

  1. Navigate to the "Interactive Map" section from the main menu
  2. Browse properties displayed as markers on the map
  3. Click on a marker to see basic property details
  4. Use filters to narrow properties by province, property type, or game species
  5. Toggle between standard map view and iHunter map integration

The map makes it easy to see property locations relative to roads, public lands, and other geographical features that might be important for your hunting plans.

What is the iHunter integration and do I need it?

The iHunter integration is a premium feature that connects HuntLand property data with the popular iHunter app, which provides detailed hunting maps and information specific to Canadian hunting. Using this integration:

  • View HuntLand properties on iHunter's detailed maps
  • Access wildlife management unit (WMU) boundaries
  • See property ownership boundaries
  • View terrain features and topographical data
  • Access hunting regulations specific to the area

This integration requires an iHunter subscription (not included with HuntLand). While not essential, many serious hunters find it valuable for planning their hunts. You can still use HuntLand's standard maps without an iHunter subscription.

How accurate are the property boundaries shown on the map?

Property boundaries displayed on our standard map are approximate and for general reference only. For precise boundary information, we recommend:

  1. Checking the property listing for boundary description and any available maps uploaded by the landowner
  2. Messaging the landowner to request detailed boundary information
  3. Using the iHunter integration which has more detailed property boundary data (requires subscription)
  4. Asking the landowner to physically point out boundaries upon arrival

Hunters are responsible for staying within the boundaries of their booked property. Trespassing on neighboring properties is illegal and violates our terms of service.

How do I verify my identity on HuntLand?

To ensure safety and trust in our community, HuntLand requires identity verification for all users. The verification process is simple:

  1. Create your account with basic information
  2. Upload a photo of your government-issued ID
  3. Take a selfie for facial verification
  4. For hunters: Upload your hunting license
  5. For landowners: Provide proof of property ownership

This information is securely stored and only used for verification purposes. Your personal identification documents are never shared with other users. Verification typically takes 24-48 hours to process.

How can I improve my profile as a hunter?

A complete hunter profile helps build trust with landowners and increases your booking acceptance rate:

  • Add a clear profile photo of yourself
  • Complete your bio with information about your hunting experience and preferences
  • Verify your identity and hunting license
  • Connect your social media accounts if desired
  • Obtain positive reviews from landowners after your hunts
  • Be responsive to messages and inquiries

Remember that landowners often have multiple booking requests and are more likely to accept hunters with complete, verified profiles and positive reviews.

Is my personal information secure on HuntLand?

Yes, HuntLand takes data security and privacy seriously. We employ industry-standard security measures to protect your information:

  • All personal data is encrypted both in transit and at rest
  • Payment information is processed securely through Stripe and is never stored on our servers
  • We never share your personal contact information until a booking is confirmed
  • ID verification documents are stored securely and only accessed for verification purposes
  • You control what information is visible on your public profile
